PCOS VS HA: Part 3

This is final part of my PCOS VS HA series, if you haven’t yet already please read part 1 and part 2.

Is it possible to have both HA and PCOS? It is possible for individuals to have both HA and PCOS, which can further lead to confusion with diagnosis.

Women with PCOS often experience issues with their insulin resistance and are at higher risk of weight gain and inability to lose weight. Some may develop disordered eating habits or eating disorders to control their weight, and sometimes this may lead to HA.

The treatment strategy for individuals with both HA and PCOS is to first treat the HA and then PCOS.

If HA goes untreated, individuals risk compromising their bone density and relationship with food and/or exercise. when left untreated, HA can lead to premature cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and hypothyroidism. Individuals with HA need to address the root causes of their condition, which often will include reducing their physical activity levels and increasing their calories.
